The final phase of a major £4.6m project to construct a new 420-pupil school in Highbridge is to begin this month.
A topping out ceremony is to be held at Churchfield School on Thursday 12th January when the final phase of work gets underway.
As exclusively pictured above, the new building’s steel structure is now in place, the pre-cast concrete slabs have been installed, and both roofing work and construction of external walls is underway.
Somerset County Council last year awarded VINCI Construction UK the £4.6million contract to build the 14-classroom school, which will eventually accommodate 420 students.
Cllr John Osman, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This new state-of-the-art, purpose-built primary school will bring huge advantages to the community, reinforcing the Council’s commitment to provide the best possible facilities and learning environment for our children in Somerset.”
Wendy Nelder, Head of Churchfield School, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “While our temporary classrooms are working out fine, it will be great to have a new, modern school ready for the autumn term 2012.”
