Several groups across the Burnham-On-Sea area are this week celebrating a big cash windfall.
Sedgemoor District Council has announced that six groups are to receive almost £90,000 of RLT3 funding, which comes from the local housing developers’ contributions.
BASC (Burnham Association of Sports Clubs) is to receive a bumper £78,587.26 towards the cost of building a new spectators grandstand, replacing the existing one.
“The current one is unsafe and doesn’t shelter spectators from the weather. The funding will also fund new footpath links to the new grandstand, existing car park and clubhouse,” said a delighted spokesman.
East Huntspill Sports Pavilion will get £8,000. East Huntspill Sports Pavilion has recently successfully built a block of changing facilities for users of their sports pitches and the funds will be used specifically for sewerage improvements.
North Sedgemoor Local History Group, which is based in Burnham, will receive £896 towards the cost of installing new historical rail buffers in the town. The buffers will be the starting point for a proposed heritage trail, due to launch in August.
Burnham Hockey Club is to receive £750 and the funding will be used to enable the team to purchase an away kit. They are also looking to purchase extra equipment to enable more specific training.
The Senior Citizen Liaison Team (SCLT) will also receive £589.23 to provide crime prevention and victim support services which are tailored for the growing older adult community across the Burnham area.
And The Windows Carers Group, also based in Burnham, will get £200. This weekly meeting group for carers and is organising a day trip and lunch for members.
