A ceremony has been held this week to mark the start of the final phase of a major £4.6m project to build a new 420-pupil school in Highbridge.
As pictured here, a topping out ceremony was held at Churchfield School on Thursday (12th January) as the last stage of the work began.
Highbridge county councillor John Woodman was joined by headteacher Wendy Nelder, education bosses, schoolchildren and local clergy at the event.
The £4.6million, 14-classroom school will eventually accommodate 420 students and is being constructed by VINCI Construction UK.
The new building’s steel structure is in place and roofing work and construction of external walls is now underway ahead of the expected completion this summer.
Cllr John Woodman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This new state-of-the-art, purpose-built primary school will be a fantastic asset to our community.”
“It shows our commitment to providing the best possible facilities and learning environment for Somerset’s children.”
Wendy Nelder added: “While our temporary classrooms are working out fine, it will be great to have a new, modern school ready for the autumn term 2012.”
