Burnham-On-Sea club introduces tennis to local school pupils

-

The coaches from Burnham-On-Sea’s Avenue Tennis Club made a special visit to two local schools this week to introduce youngsters to the sport.

Head Coach Vinny Duddy and Club Coach Craig Phillips visited Berrow School and Burnham Infants School where a series of fun tennis games were played involving the staff and children.

“We spent four mornings at the two schools going through a variety of games which can be played indoors and allow the children and teachers to make good use of the free tennis equipment that they have obtained from the Tennis Foundation,” Vinny told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“It was really good to see so many kids enjoying tennis and I hope that we have helped encourage the children to play some more tennis.”

The coaches will be visiting the schools again during February and early March to go through the games again and promote the Avenue’s club open day on Sunday 18th March, which will take place from 11am- 1pm.

For youngsters aged 14 to 25, the Avenue tennis club has a new membership deal, suppported by SASP (Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership) which includes membership and coaching on a Tuesday evening from 7.30-9pm until March 12th for £15. The deal also includes entry to an Olympic Ticket Draw.

‘Vinny’s Minis’ will resume on Friday 20th January at 6:30pm. Duddy says the idea behind the evening is to encourage children to have fun on a tennis court whilst doing lots of fun games and coordination exercises with rackets, balls and other equipment.
