Helicopter night rescue from dredger is rehearsed in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Helicopter, Coastguard and lifeboat crews have practised rescuing people from a boat during a night-time training exercise in Burnham-On-Sea.

An RAF Sea King helicopter from Chivenor in Devon flew in to take part in the drill, which also involved the Arco Dart dredger in the River Parrett.

The helicopter initially landed at The Oak Tree Arena in Edithmead to allow the crews to discuss the exercise.

A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The exercise lasted for around 90 minutes, with all lifeboat crew being lifted and transferred a number of times, plus a crewmember, as a simulated casualty, was collected from the dredger Arco Dart, in the River Parrett by lifeboat.”

Helicopter transfers at night are potentially hazardous to boat and helicopter crews, so training like this is essential.”
