Burnham-On-Sea’s new lifeboat is set to be officially named in a ceremony at the town’s lifeboat station on Saturday (April 8th).
The ceremony for the new RNLI D-class lifeboat Burnham Reach will be held at the Pier Street lifeboat station, starting at 3pm with a launch at 4pm.
Attendance will be by invitation only, but there will be an opportunity for the public to watch the boat’s launch from the sea wall.
This will be the third naming ceremony, since the lifeboat station officially opened in 2004.
The ceremony will include music from Burnham and Highbridge band, a handing over ceremony with speeches and prayers, before the lifeboat is officially named, by the pouring of cider over the bows.
VIP guests include Ann Maw, Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, who will be invited to name the lifeboat.
After the christening, and a service of dedication, both lifeboats will be transported to the launching area, for a short sea trip, before returning to the lifeboat station, where the guests will be served light refreshments.
