Deputy Prime Minister makes surprise visit to Burnham-On-Sea

-

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg makes a surprise visit to Burnham-On-Sea on Wednesday (August 6th).

Mr Clegg gave a helping hand to the town’s MP Tessa Munt, who is currently volunteering in the community over the summer to see the work of local groups and businesses up close.

Tessa was working as a carer for the day with Burnham-based care specialists Neighbourhood Care at a home in Burnham’s Atyeo Close.

A couple who live there, Noel and Linda, who are both in their 90s, were surprised to welcome the Deputy PM into their home along with Tessa.

Mr Clegg said: “I think the carers do a great job and it is not easy. It is important for elderly people to see familiar faces to build up trust. I am loving my day, I love being out of Westminster. I’m not keen on the slightly stuffy, old-fashioned way we do politics in Westminster.”

Neighbourhood Care’s Manager Barbara Kaczorowska told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was great to have Tessa Munt and Nick Clegg visit us. Tessa was keen to see the work of our carers here in Burnham during a day of work experience and it was great that Mr Clegg was also able to stop by. He was very interested in our work and happily chatted with our team and their roles.”

The Deputy PM spoke to the staff, several students and local residents, posing for a few snaps.
