Dozens of dog walkers and their pets joined a sponsored ‘Mutt Strut’ at Highbridge’s Apex Park on Sunday (April 9th).

The annual 2.5 mile walk was held in aid of the RSPCA’s North Somerset Branch, with over £1,000 expected to have been raised.

A spokesperson from Brent Knoll RSPCA, which oversaw the event, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a great success once again – we had a good number of people with their pets taking part and thank everyone for their support.”

Among those taking part was a rehomed dog who was very shy at the start of the event, but by the end was enjoying being with the people and other dogs – to the extent that he didn’t want to leave by the end of the day!

Another dog, Kelly, that is suffering from a terminal blood cancer was taking part for what could be its final time, making it an emotional event for the owner.

For much of the walk some dogs were walked by the people who will be rehoming them. This is part of their ‘getting to know each other’ programme and, as this was a sociable occasion for the dogs, it helps them to be comfortable with their new homes.
