Motorist injured after car overturns on M5 at Burnham-On-Sea

A motorist was taken to hospital after a car crash during heavy rain on the M5 at Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (August 10th).

Police, fire and ambulance crews were sent to the northbound carriageway of the M5 between Burnham and Weston shortly after 7.30am after a car overturned, as pictured here.

Two lanes of the carrigeway were shut while the emergency services were on scene.

Fire appliances from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater were called to the incident.

One person was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to Weston General Hospital with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening. The M5 re-opened at around 9am.

The remnants of the former Hurricane Bertha have been passing through the area, leaving heavy rain and slippery road conditions.
