The unique sport of tractor pulling heads to Brean this weekend when the resort hosts a round of the the UK Tractor Pulling championships.
Tractor pulling was last seen in Brean over 20 years ago and the sport used to be popular in the South West in the 1980s and is now enjoying a revival across the UK.
“The goal of tractor pulling is to find the strongest machine and the best driver. This is done by getting a tractor to pull a weighted sled along a 100meter clay track, the sled increases its resistance the further you pull it. The driver who in the end pulls the sled the furthest, is the winner,” explained Mike Barsby, one of the organisers at Brean Leisure Park.
“Over 25 tractors will be taking part in this exciting spectator sport so come along for some family entertainment with a difference!”
The event will start at 5pm in the Brean Leisure Park Arena on Saturday 16th August and will continue the following day (Sunday 17th) from 11am.
Admission is £2.50 a child (for under 14s) and £5 per adult. Between the tractor pulls visitors can also browse around the stalls or visit the bar and food kiosk. For more info call Brean Leisure Park on 01278 751595.
