A group of young engineers from King Alfred School’s Sixth Form in Highbridge have been working in the engineering laboratories at the University of the West of England in Bristol this week as part of a nationwide ‘Engineering in Education Scheme’.
Jonathan Gaskell, head of the sixth form, explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The scheme allows students with skills and interests in Maths, Technology and Science to experience real scientific research.”
“Josh Stacey, Dana Haggett, Lindsey Cox and Chris Bailey are designing and building a micro-generator to power a disaster relief centre.”
“As part of their research, the students carried out experiments inside a wind tunnel in order to gauge the amount of electricity generated from a wind turbine. The students will also visit Devonport Royal Dockyards to see micro-generators in action.”
