Work to remove part of the damaged roof of the former Highbridge Hotel was underway on Thursday (December 18th), eight months after a devastating blaze swept through the property.
A crane was used to lift workmen onto the roof of the fire-damaged building, as pictured, to allow them to inspect the timbers.
“Parts of the most damaged area were removed,” one local resident told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “The whole roof structure was also fully assessed, what’s left of it.”
The former hotel was left in an unstable condition following a fire in April that led to it being sealed off ever since.
Derek Mead, the building’s owner, has been under pressure to make improvements to the high-profile property, which is loacted beside the A38 at the entrance to Highbridge. A clean-up was carried out in November at the request of the town council.
