Fast food chain wants to open restaurant in Burnham-On-Sea in 2009

-

Global fast food chain Subway plans to open a restaurant in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea during 2009, the company confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week.

Subway has already been in contact with several estate agents in the town about acquiring premises on the High Street.

Simon Holmes, Subway’s Franchise Sales & Property Acquisition Manager for the South West, confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We have been interested in Burnham for a while and are hoping to open a restuarant in the town during 2009.”

“We have looked at several properties, but haven’t been able to justify the costs so far.”

“We’ve very interested in Burnham-On-Sea and understand that while the number of visitors is seasonal, there are still a good number of residents all year round who would make this financially viable for us.”

Subway is a restaurant franchise that sells sandwiches called ‘subs’ and salads.

It has over 30,342 franchised units in 87 countries and claims to be the fastest growing food franchise in the world.

Among the properties looked at so far in Burnham is the premises currently occupied by JPS Shoes, on the corner of Pier Street and the High Street, whose lease is currently for sale, as Burnham-On-Sea.com reported earlier this year.

News of the food chain’s interest in Burnham is being seen positively, following several shop closures due to the financial downturn.
