Road closures in place today as 300 head to Burnham for triathlon

Hundreds of athletes from across the region will be converging on Burnham-On-Sea today (Sunday) when the town holds its annual spring triathlon.

Organised by Burnham-On-Sea Swim and Sports Academy, the Super Sprint Triathlon and Junior Triathlon will be held from 7am and several roads in the town will be closed.

“It will be a great event, not only for those taking part, but spectators too with lots of action to watch,” an organiser told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Several road closures are in force. The South Esplanade from its junction with Steart Drive in a southerly direction will be closed from 4am-9am.

Seaview Road will close for its entire length from 4am until 12 noon. The Esplanade will shut from 4am until 12 noon from its junction with Seaview Road in a southerly direction to its junction with Pier Street.

Pier Street will shut from 4am until 9am from its junction with the South Esplanade to its junction with Abingdon Street.

The South Esplanade from its junction with Steart Drive to its junction with Pier Street will shut from 4am until 9am.

And Steart Drive will shut from 4am until 9am from its junction with the South Esplanade in an easterly direction for a distance of approx 96 metres.
