In photos: Burnham-On-Sea continues to shiver in wintry scenes

Temperatures plunged to minus nine degrees Centigrade during one of the coldest weeks that the Burnham-On-Sea area has experienced in many years. These were the scenes around the area, as the cold snap continued.

A wide bank of ice extended along the high tide line at Brean, creating these teeth-chattering scenes in front of the Down.

Apex Park’s lakes in Highbridge were frozen solid, but police warned youths who were seen playing on the ice with these inflatable life rings to stay well clear.

The Berrow wreck, the SS Nornen, was surrounded by a layer of slush and ice throughout much of the week.

A thick layer of ice and slush washed up along the beach stretched for miles between Bunham and Brean.

Water froze along the banks of the River Brue, leaving these large sheets of broken ice along the tidal estuary.

Chunks of ice were created around the legs of Burnham’s famous beach lighthouse
