Speeding vehicles in Brean and Berrow are among the problems that local police will be focusing on during the coming months, it was decided this week.
A list of the priorities that police will be tackling was drawn up during the ‘Partners and Communities Together’ (PACT) meeting held at Burnham’s Princess Hall on Wednesday night (January 14th).
Residents from the villages surrounding Burnham-On-Sea got the chance to air their views about the issues police should be tackling.
Despite being a cold, wet January evening, the meeting was well attended by the public, members of local neighbourhood watch schemes, plus clerks and local councillors.

Speeding issues, particularly Barton Road through to Berrow Road

Speeding issues, particularly Warren Road to Coast Road, and signage issues in the Knoll Park area

Inspector Nick Greenhalgh explained the process of the PACTs for the coastal area, adding that there are now three PACTs in our area – one for Burnham, one for Highbridge and one for the rural parishes.
The police beat team reported on the issues that had been raised at the previous PACT meeting and what actions and results had been forthcoming, included targeting speeding vehicles where a number of penalty notices had been issued.
Chairman Bob Filmer reported that county councillor Alan Ham had used some of his Council Community Budget to pay for flashing speed warning signs throughout the Brent Division parishes, which will be transferred between villages on a regular basis.
Also, an update was given on the creation of a No Cold Calling scheme in East Brent.
The next coastal parish PACT meeting will be held on April 1st.
Burnham-On-Sea’s PACT meeting will be held at 7pm this coming Thursday (January 22nd) in The Old Courthouse, Jaycroft Road.
The next meeting for Highbridge will be at 7.30pm on Thursday 19th February at Highbridge Community Centre at Pearce Drive.
