Over 60 people attended a special church service in Burnham-On-Sea on Monday (February 6th) to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne.
St Andrew’s Church held the brief service, which was accompanied by a peal of bells and followed by a loyal toast (pictured above).
Reverend Graham Witts told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “In these days of bad news about self serving bankers, it is a good time to reflect on the public service and life of our monarch.”
“It was on Febuary 6th 1952 that the accession took place. This marks what I hope will be a wonderful few months of celebration in the area concluding with the jubilee events organised by our Town Council.”
The service lasted ten minutes and included prayers from the original Accession Service.
