A group of Burnham-On-Sea businessmen who are considering buying the town’s Princess Hall to turn it into an arts and music centre will be meeting district council bosses this week to discuss their plans.
The group, who have requested to remain anonymous, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week they would be meeting Sedgemoor District Council bosses on Wednesday (January 21st) to discuss the ambitious proposals.
“We are considering setting up a charitable trust to run the facility, which would be totally inclusive and would hold arts, film and music events,” the group’s spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Under Sedgemoor District Council’s control, the building is losing £107,000 a year, but we think that by properly promoting the venue we could turn it into a thriving, financially viable facility.”
Rumours about the group’s plans first surfaced on Burnham-On-Sea’s discussion forums earlier this month.
Sedgemoor District Council has been responsible for the Princess Hall since
taking over the building from the Town Council in the mid 1990’s – and many councillors and residents are keen to see its future safeguarded amid a fresh round of cost-cutting by the district council.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last month that the future of the hall was a little brighter following the creation of a new ‘friends’ group to look after it.
