Carnival President Malcolm Borland, Chairman Phil New and Carnival Treasurer John Hodgson handed over the cheques at the Ritz Social Club to representatives of those groups who helped with street collections at last November’s event, as pictured above.

The groups benefiting included Burnham Lions (£1,000), Worle Lions (£100), BEES (£200), the Youth Hostel Association (£300), Burnham Rotary Club (£500), Sedgemoor Explorers (£100), St John Ambulance (£500), Burnham In Bloom (£100), PGM School (£150), Burnham Community Centre (£150), Weston Hospice Care (£300), Homestart (£100), Army Cadets (£100), Fei Lung Kwan kung fu group (£100), Cheltenham Lions (£100), Portishead Lions (£100), Mencap (£100), World Challenge (£150).

Malcom thanked the organisations for their support, adding: “We are very grateful for the help of these local groups in assisting us with collections, without whom we would not have a carnival. We rely on volunteers for marshalling and collecting.”
