A motorist who was air-lifted to hospital following a head-on crash which closed the A38 near Burnham-On-Sea yesterday does not have life threatening injuries, police said today (Thursday).
The busy route through Brent Knoll was shut for four hours following the collision between a Land Rover and van, pictured here.
A man trapped in the vehicle had to be cut free by fire crews and then flown to hospital in Bristol by air ambulance. Police spokesman Martin Dunscombe told Burnham-On-Sea.com today that his injuries are “not life-threatening.”
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service added: “Ambulance crews were called to the scene at 2.47pm following a two vehicle collision.”
“One person, a male in his 60s, was trapped in a van and was freed by the fire crews. A second patient received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.”
The Great Western Air Ambulance (pictured above) landed besides the road and the casualty was flown to Bristol for emergency treatment.
Fire spokesman Paul Slaven added: “Crews used Clan Lucas cutting equipment and hydraulic rams in order to perform a dashboard roll to extricate the male casualty into the hands of paramedics. He was then conveyed to hospital via air ambulance whilst crews made both vehicles safe and prevented leaking oil from entering the drains.”
The collision occurred near the entrance to West Country Motor Homes and police have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 0800 555 111.
