Burnham-On-Sea Police have made seven arrests following a spate of burglaries in the town during recent weeks.
Residential homes and commercial properties have been targeted over the last two months, prompting the arrests.
Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “There has been a spate of burglaries in the Burnham-On-Sea area which has resulted in seven arrests for theft/burglary related crimes.”
“Property taken during the incidents has been recovered. We have also increased our presence in the area around-the-clock.”
“However, we would remind people to take adequate precautions to protect their property, including the provision of CCTV.”
“Additionally we would encourage members of the public to be our ‘eyes and ears’ and report any suspicious actions to that appropriate action can be taken.”
“Keeping local communities safe, supporting vulnerable victims and reducing crime remain the highest priorities for us.”
Burnham’s branch of Boots The Chemist in The High Street was broken into three times. Burnham-On-Sea’s Central Garage in Berrow Road was broken when thousands of pounds of stock was taken in a late-night break-in, as featured here.
And in a separate burglary, reported here, mean-spirited burglars smashed their way through the door of Burnham-On-Sea’s Childrens Society charity shop early on March 31st, stealing stock.
In a further burglary at Burnham-On-Sea’s GW Hurleys newsagents early on April 19th, as reported here, when intruders smashed their way in during the early hours, stealing a large quantity of stock.
There have also been a series of residential homes targeted and Police have issued security advice.
“Businesses, in addition to installing alarms and ensuring they have secure windows and doors and good locks, might also wish to consider installing CCTV.”
“In terms of house security we would advise that owners take precautions to protect their property, especially now warmer lighter evenings are here.”
“Ensure sheds and outbuildings are secured – especially if housing expensive electrical gardening equipment.”
“Don’t leave windows and doors open in your home, especially if you are leaving your home unattended. Also ensure windows are closed at night, especially if on a ground floor property.”
