Be on the look-out for ‘lonely bouquets’ in Burnham-On-Sea today

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s flower club is asking people to look out for ‘lonely bouquets’ about the town centre today (Friday).

The Burnham Area Evening Flower Club is among thousands of other members of the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies celebrating National Flower Arranging Day across the UK today.

Small bouquets of flowers are being left in public places around Burnham-On-Sea with a note to say ‘This is a lonely bouquet – please take me home with you’.

Each year, these cheerful bouquets are much appreciated by members of the public, who take to social media to express their surprise at the kindness of the gesture.

Burnham Area Evening Flower Club meets on the third Monday of the month excepting for August, November and December, in St Andrew’s Church Hall at 7.30pm.

“We have Qualified Demonstrators who come from anywhere within an 80-mile radius and give interesting chats whilst arranging 5 or 6 floral displays which are raffled at the end of the evening,” explained the club’s Di Barnard.

“There is a well stocked Sales Table where Flower Arranging supplies can be purchased also an excellent plant stall with a large selection of plants, all at bargain prices.”

The doors open at 7pm when a cup of Tea/Coffee and a biscuit is ready to enjoy.
Annual Membership commences in January with a fee of £37.00, half year from June is £25.00, or visitors are always welcome for £6.50.

On the 4th Monday in November the club will have a national demonstrator for its Open Christmas Demonstration which is held in the Princess Theatre. “This year we are fortunate to welcome Jonathan Moseley a top International Demonstrator and past Judge of BBC TV’s ‘Big Allotment Challenge’, I’m sure we will have an outstanding display,” added Di.

“We also hold flower arranging workshops and practice classes at various dates throughout the year. Members also help with various community events throughout the year including the May Day event, stewarding the bake-off in both the Food Festivals, and arranging a pedestal in Wells Cathedral and help with many Church flowers and festivals.”
