Exclusive: Burnham-On-Sea photography shop closes as recession bites

-

Another shop in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea has become the victim of the recession and shut its doors for the final time on Saturday (January 31st).

The photography shop in the High Street has closed after 12 years’ business in Burnham.

Owner Joy Beavis, pictured above in the empty shop, told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Saturday that the decision had been an “incredibly difficult” one.

She added: “Trade has tailed off during recent months and we couldn’t bear any financial losses.”

“We’ve been in this shop nine years and a further three years over the road, so it’s been an incredibly difficult decision. It’s been a sad day clearing out the remaining stock.”

The store joins a list of several firms in Burnham that have closed in recent months, including French’s cafe in College Street and clothing store Dragonsurf in the High Street.

However, Burnham-On-Sea.com also recently reported here how some town centre businesses are thriving in the recession.
