170 walkers complete annual fundraising Memory Walk at Brean

-

Over 170 people pulled on their walking boots to take part in a fundraising walk at Brean on Sunday.

The annual Memory Walk was held in aid of Alzheimer’s Society and was started by children’s TV star Sooty at Brean Leisure Park.

Organiser Dania Shaw from The Alzheimer’s Society told Burnham-On-Sea.com the event had been a great success with the final amount raised being calculated.

“We raised £9,000 from this event last year and hope to have exceeded that amount this time thanks to everyone’s wonderful support,” she said.

The walkers set off on a route which took them over the sand dunes onto the beach and then to the top of Brean Down and back.

Among the local walkers was Burnham Police Community Support Officer Tracey Grobbeler, who recently lost her father to Alzheimers. Her fundraising page is online here.

Alzheimer’s Society’s Memory Walk, in partnership with Bupa Care Homes, is a series of fundraising walking events that take place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland every September, raising money to provide vital support to people living with dementia and help research to find a cure.

The walkers strode along the beach to Brean Down in perfect walking weather.

A shorter route around Brean Leisure Park was also available. On return to Brean Leisure Park, the walkers enjoyed refreshments at Brean Tavern.
