Burnham-On-Sea Parkrun celebrates 100th run with visit by new Mayor

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s popular Parkrun celebrated its 100th event on Saturday (May 13th) with a special visit from the town’s new Mayor.

In his first engagement as Mayor since taking office on Monday, Cllr Bill Hancock cheered off the 300 runners alongside Town Crier Alistair Murray, as pictured here.

Cllr Hancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s great to see these weekly runs doing so well, attracting hundreds of runners of all ages. I congratulate the event’s organisers on this super milestone.”

Parkrun co-directors Reg Huxtable and Stuart Anderson thanked the runners and their team of marshalls who help to oversee the Apex Park events.

“We need 20 marshalls every week which has been a struggle at times,” said Reg, “but we have some marvellous helpers and are delighted to see the runs so well supported each week.”

The Parkruns began in 2015 and were initially funded by local councils. All are welcome to the runs, which are held every Saturday at 9am. Sign up online at the Parkrun website.
