Two men have been arrested in Burnham-On-Sea following the discovery of more than 140 cannabis plants at properties in the town.
Over the past fortnight, Burnham Police have carried out raids at two homes in the town where they seized the plants.
A 32 year-old local man was arrested in one raid after the discovery of a cannabis factory within a house in the town. In excess of 100 cannabis plants were recovered.
And in a separate raid, a further 40 cannabis plants were found in a home in the town centre where a man was arrested.
“This was a positive result for the local policing team and has taken a considerable amount of cannabis out of circulation,” police spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“We would like to encourage members of the public with concerns to contact us via 101 or Crimestoppers if they believe that cannabis is being grown in their area.”
“Any person dealing, cultivating or being in possession of cannabis, a Class B drug, will be dealt with robustly. Being in possession of cannabis can be subject to a 5-year prison term and if caught being in possession with intent to supply or production can lead to a 12-year prison term.”
“Cannabis has strong links to mental health illnesses and can be the gateway drug to other drugs.”
