This month’s Burnham-On-Sea Food and Drink Festival will offer visitors the chance to learn new cooking skills for free.
The 10th festival, which has been rebranded as ‘Eat: Burnham’, will be held on Saturday 27th May.
Hawksmoor Cookery School will be running four drop-in sessions at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm in Somerset Skills and Learning Centre in Princess Street.
Chrissie Godfrey will be leading the hands-on workshops which will enable visitors to experiment with exciting flavours and bring out the best in early summer vegetables.
As a group, visitors to the sessions will create a zingy peanut, lime and ginger dressing for a rice and carrot noodle salad; a Japanese influenced dressing for spiralised courgettes; and a creamy dill dressing for cucumber ribbons.
Visitors will also be able to create their own bespoke version of the nation’s favourite dip, hummus.
There will be plenty of opportunities to taste, adjust, share and discuss, before taking away the recipes for use at home.
The sessions will be suitable for adults and families with children aged 7+. Just turn up on the day to reserve a place.
Hosted by Delicious in Taunton, Chrissie Godfrey has been cooking for vegetarian and vegan pop-up events since 2013.
“We have some great restaurants in the town, but the offering for vegetarians is generally limited. As a lifelong passionate cook, I wanted to show people just how amazing and versatile the range of vegetable based dishes can be.”
“The idea of ‘pop up dining’ took off in our major cities, wended its way to the West Country, and I’ve been popping up in different venues ever since.”
Chrissie has taught cooking classes in local community centres and currently also teaches a weekly class to people who have experienced homelessness at Open Door, Taunton’s drop in centre for rough sleepers.
Finbarr O’Mahony, from Hawksmoor Investment Management told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are very proud to be sponsoring the Cookery Schools at EAT’s award-winning Food and Drink Festivals this summer.”
“Hawksmoor is an independent, West Country-based business focused on responsibly managing the wealth entrusted to our care. We are committed to our local presence and to being part of the communities we serve and are therefore delighted to work with EAT to showcase our local, independent producers.”
“These festivals celebrate what is best about living in Somerset – a vibrant food culture and a strong sense of community. The Hawksmoor Cookery School will be fun – possibly messy! – and help the most inexperienced “foodie” to become a Master Chef. We look forward to seeing you there.”
