A Burnham-On-Sea slimmer has lost more than five stone of weight after a fall prompted her to make a change to her lifestyle.
Georgina Edwards has dropped from a dress size 24 to a 12 after joining Slimming World in Burnham.
“It all started when, after a long drive through France to stay with friends, Georgina stopped at a local supermarket to stock up with wine and goodies, and she slipped and fell,” says Slimming World’s Hayley Moore.
“Everyone initially thought that she’d broken her leg, but Georgina wouldn’t let anyone attempt to lift her, insisting she could manage. In fact, she was worried they’d discover how heavy she was.”
Georgina was given an X-ray and medication and it was established she had ruptured her hamstring.
The journey back to England was painful, and once home she had to have physiotherapy on her back and hip and it was also recommended she should lose weight to help her recovery.
“Georgina decided to join Burnham-On-Sea’s Slimming World group and on her first week she lost 4lb which gave her such a boost that she immediately shared the success with her family,” said Hayley.
“She had total support from her friends and family who also enjoy the Slimming World meals she cooks.”
“Georgina has seen many health benefits – she can walk more, has far more energy, sleeps better, and has fewer problems with her hips and knees.”
All Georgina’s diets had failed in the past, but Slimming World was a lifestyle change.
She says: “I can eat plenty of ‘free’ foods, never feel hungry and lose weight. I feel ten years younger and more confident after losing 5 stone, 8 1/2 lb.”
Georgina recently had a health check to get an update on her progress and was delighted to pass in all areas with flying colours.
She currently attends the Friday morning group at Burnham’s Baptist Church in College Street, and says she enjoys the “warm companionship, support, fun from her consultants and all her lovely friends.”
She added: “In group, we support each other with the sharing of recipes – the taster sessions are wonderful which are a great source of sharing new ideas. Hayley is always in touch with support and our Facebook page is extremely good. Sharing recipes and blips makes you feel supported and you aren’t on your own.”
