Fire crews called to rescue pregnant horse stranded in ditch

-

Fire crews were called out to rescue a stranded horse in a ditch near East Huntspill on Sunday (September 14th).

Two fire appliances and a specialist rescue team with a telehandler from the service’s Urban Search and Rescue team were sent just after 8am to reports of a horse stuck in mud.

Crews confirmed that the heavily-pregnant horse was stranded and they liaised with the owner and a vet to agree the safest plan for the rescue.

They managed to release the horse using strops and lines and the horse was left with a vet to be assessed.
