New warning messages about Burnham-On-Sea’s summer-time beach dogs ban have begun to appear on pavements along the seafront.
Sedgemoor District Council bans dogs from the town’s main three beaches over the tourist season, as we reported here.
“To remind people of the dog bans, the dog wardens have sprayed chalk stencils at locations along The Esplanade alongside the normal signage,” council spokeswoman Claire Faun said this week.
The messages have been left on pavements along the seafront, on the steps of the sea wall, and on the pilot building.
While the messages do wash away in heavy rain, the council says they will be replaced throughout the season.
The seasonal dog ban came back into force on May 1st on all beaches at Burnham-On-Sea between Maddock’s Slade and the Yacht Club.
During the dog ban period, which runs from May 1st to September 30th, it is an offence to take your dog onto the beach.
Dog walkers can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £75 or face prosecution for doing so.
Dogs can still be walked on the beach north of Maddock’s Slade towards the beach lighthouse all year-round.
