Council tax bills in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge are set to rise by just 20p this year – which is less than the 52p a year increase orginally announced by the Town Council earlier this year.
Town Clerk Eileen Shaw said on Wednesday (February 22nd) that the council had miscalculated a figure, meaning the actual amount required by tax payers in the town is 32p a year lower than expected.
Eileen told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A precept demand of £529,044 means a band D figure for 2012/13 will be £76.29 and not £76.61 as I reported. I can only apologise for this error.”
“The result of this is that for Burnham and Highbridge the increase for 2012/13 over 2011/12 represents a 20p per year increase for a band D property, equivalent to a 0.27% increase. As the increase is so small it represents to all intents and purposes a standstill budget.”
