A smash-and-grab thief struck at a shop in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea late on Wednesday evening (February 11th).
Police were called to Sentiments on the High Street at around 11pm after a front window at the premises was smashed to gain entry.
A teenage youth was arrested shortly afterwards by police in connection with their enquiries.
Police spokesman Wayne Baker confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A 15 year-old was arrested on suspicion of burglary following an incident at a greetings card shop in the High Street last night.”
“Police are keen to hear from anyone in the area at the time that has information that may help police with their enquiries. They can contact Burnham police on 0845 456 7000.”
The shop’s owner, Tim Potts, pictured above, told Burnham-On-Sea.com at the scene: “It’s annoying that this has happened – a big clean-up is needed and we’re having to get the window boarded up.”
He added that just one item had been stolen and the shop would be open as normal. “With Valentines Day coming shortly, this is a busy week for us and we don’t want customers thinking we’re closed.”
There has been a spate of crimes against businesses in Burnham town centre in recent weeks. An attempted robbery at an antiques shop took place last month, plus two ram raids at Boots and Superdrug in late 2008, and vandals smashed shop windows at a shop in December and attacked a financial business in January.
