Burnham teenager competes in district finals of young chef contest

A talented young chef from Burnham-On-Sea competed against youngsters from across the area when he reached the district finals of the Rotary Club’s Young Chef of the Year Competition on Saturday (February 25th).

Josh Pring, 13, cooked a three-course meal in front of a panel of expert judges during the latest stage of the contest, held at King Alfred School in Highbridge.

Josh, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I was the youngest person to reach the district finals, so I was really pleased to get this far. I love cooking and enjoyed taking part.”

Josh’s entry comprised of a starter of a roasted portobello mushroom, a main course of chicken breast in a white wine sauce, followed by a dessert of chocolate and vanilla cheesecake.

He just narrowly missed out on progressing to the next round of the competition, which is to be held in March. Saturday’s winner was Abbie Smith from Minehead and the runner-up was Isobel Younger from Sherbourne (both of whom are pictured below).

Organiser Jane Gibbs told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a fantastic district final and all of the young cooks showed they have got this far by working hard and showing real creativity. There were some superb meals on show and only a few marks separated the entries, so congratulations go to them all.”
