Thornback Ray caught in Burnham wins sea angling competition

-

This big Thornback Ray was the catch of the day when members of Burnham-On-Sea’s Boat Onwers Sea Angling Association held their latest competition over the weekend.

Steve Saxby, pictured, reeled in the 11lb 8.5oz specimen from his boat during Sunday’s contest in the waters off Burnham.

Five boats with ten members onboard took part in the annual Vicoue Trophy competition in which the anglers netted a wide range of catches over the course of nine hours, including several dog fish, which were all returned to the water.

The group’s Craig Willis and Richard Saxby organised the competition and said the day had been a success, despite rough sea conditions caused by offshore winds.
