Burnham enjoys hottest day of the year so far as weather boosts town

-

Burnham-On-Sea has seen a positive start to its tourist season with visitor numbers up on the same period last year, helped by good weather.

Burnham Chamber of Trade says footfall cameras in the town centre show footfall is 4.2 per cent up on 2016.

Accommodation bookings at many guest houses, hotels and bed and breakfasts in the town are also up on last year over the half-term holiday, which begins today.

It comes as Burnham enjoyed its hottest day of the year so far on Thursday and more warm weather is on the way over the Bank Holiday weekend, but with a risk of showers.

Thermometers hit a peak temperature of 26.1°C (79°F) in Burnham on Thursday afternoon, just after 3pm. Walkers and beach users took advantage of the conditions to enjoy a super high tide, as pictured here.

“Friday will be dry, sunny and very warm again,” says a Met Office spokesman. “The sunshine may become a little hazy later on Friday in the west as high cloud spreads in, but the maximum temperature will be 27°C.”

“Thundery showers will then spread from west to east early on Saturday morning, followed by drier, but still warm, weather. Further spells of rain are possible late on Sunday and into Bank Holiday Monday.”
