Messages like this are being painted onto pavements across Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge as part of a project to stamp out dog fouling.
Members of Burnham and Highbridge Youth Town Council have been working hard in recent months on their dog fouling campaign.
After gaining permission from Somerset County Council and Sedgemoor District Council, the group has this week been stencilling the message ‘Responsible Dog Owners Bin it’ in temporary spray chalk onto strategic spots on the seafront and at Apex Park to catch the eyes of dog walkers.
Dozens of printed colour leaflets have also been given out to dog owners in local parks as part of an attempt to raise awareness about fouling.
“Our campaign leaflets contain awareness information about the potential harm that dog poo does to both the environment and people,” said group leader Kate Lawson, pictured right with the group.
The leaflet also includes a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ stating ‘thanks for being a responsible dog owner’ awarded by Burnham and Highbridge Youth Town Council.”
Campaign posters are also being put up at designated poster points around the towns.
“We are also handing out a free ‘poop’ bag and a Bonio for dogs, to encourage owners to pick up after their pets.”
The group received £100 of funding through the Take Art Project ‘What Change?’ which has paid for the leaflets, posters, Bonios, poop bags and spray chalk.
She added: “We have further ideas for artwork and more stenciling to do at identified sites in the towns, and are hopeful that our awareness leaflets and positive message will encourage the right steps towards a cleaner and healthier walking environment in our locality for all to enjoy.”
