Highbridge’s brand new town clock will be fully installed by the end of April, the town council has said this week.
The new £20,000 four-faced clock will be installed in the town’s Jubilee Gardens to replace the existing crumbling structure, as pictured above.
Town Clerk Eileen Shaw told a council meeting on Wednesday (February 29th): “Everything is on track to have the clock installed by the end of April.”
“The clock’s parts are all made and permission has been given by Sedgemoor District Council for the existing clock to be taken down.”
Donations and pledges amounting to £16,700 have been received from around 30 residents and businesses towards the cost of buying and installing the new clock, including one single donation of £5,000.
The Town Council will be putting the names of all those who donated cash into a hat and will then draw a name of one, who will be invited to officially open the landmark. Those who have given donations will also be acknowledged on a plaque.
The official opening of the new clock is likely to go ahead before June’s Jubilee celebrations at a function in Highbridge town centre.
