A group of sixth form students from Highbridge’s King Alfred School spent part of their half-term holiday at the Outward Bound Trust in Wales where they enjoyed various challenges that tested not only their own survival skills but their ability to work as a team and to lead others.
The youngsters completed a range of exciting activities, from rock climbing to the high ropes, trapeze and an airborne ladder.
They also took part in improvised rafting, where students had to work as a team to build a seaworthy raft from plastic barrels, logs and rope as the cold tidal waters lapped around their legs.
The sixth formers were joined by an enthusiastic bunch of Year 10s who worked extremely effectively with the older students.
“This outward bound course offered a great opportunity for Year 10s to experience some of the extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities available in the sixth form and both sets of students appreciated each others support and encouragement,” said Jonathan Gaskell, head of the school’s sixth form.
“Certainly the students are now much better prepared for the life challenges ahead and the skills they have acquired in Wales will stand them in good stead both with their immediate academic work but also in their everyday lives.”
