Sedgemoor District Council has resumed normal operations following the lifting of a cordon caused by a bomb scare and evacuation in Bridgwater on Friday afternoon (March 2nd).
A member of the public brought a suspicious device, thought to be an unexploded World War II bomb from Lilstock beach, to the town’s police station.
Police evacuated residents from nearby buildings – including the council premises – and introduced a 100 metre cordon around the police station as a safety precaution, as pictured here.
During the afternoon, the army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team collected the device and disposed of it, leading to the lifting of the cordon.
Claire Faun, spokeswoman for Sedgemoor District Council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the council set up a rest centre in the town within minutes of being asked to leave the building. The all clear was given at 3.45pm and normal services were resumed.
