Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge could soon be twinned with a town in Russia.
Burnham and Highbridge Town Council has been approached by a dance group based at the town’s King Alfred School to see whether a formal civic link with Pereslavl Zalessky could be formed.
Town council spokeswoman Lorna Brewer told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The dance group, Kazdanz, has visited the Russian town over several years on exchange visits so strong links already exist.”
“A group from Pereslavl Zalessky will be visiting Burnham and Highbridge this autumn and therefore the possibility of establishing a more formal civic link is being considered by the town council over the next few months.”
Pereslavl Zalessky is located in Yaroslavl Oblast, 87 miles northeast of Moscow on the shores of Pleschevo Lake at the mouth of the Trubezh River. It has a population of 41,923 people and is best known for its traditional architecture, which includes the historic Goritsky Monastery.
Burnham-On-Sea.com covered Kazdanz’s visit to the Russian town during 2010 here (pictured above) and in 2009 here.
Burnham and Highbridge is already twinned with Fritzlar, a town in the German region of Hessen, and France’s Louvigne du Desert.
