£31,600 revamp of Highbridge play area set to be completed this month

-

Work to give a play area in Highbridge a long-awaited £31,600 refurbishment is set to be completed this month.

Sedgemoor District Council says the work at Talbot Close is progressing well and is on track to be completed during the week starting October 13th.

The new play area will include a four-seater seesaw, roundabout and toddler multi-play unit plus a new bench and bin.

The old wooden palisade fencing, which had reached the end of its life, has already been replaced with a new traditional-style metal fencing with two new self-closing pedestrian gates.

“The roundabout and toddler multi-play unit are designed to be inclusive for use by disabled children. The multi-play unit includes a double width slide, ring climber, binocular platform and climbing grips. The existing swings will remain in situ,” council spokeswoman Sam Taylor told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Tina Gray, Vice Chairman of Highbridge Residents Association, who has campaigned for improvements for several years, recently told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been a long time coming – much longer than we’d hoped – but this is great news.”

“I’m very pleased that this lovely little park is to receive a much-needed new lease of life. It’s nice to see something in Highbridge getting funding.”

The new play area and fencing, costing £31,600, has been funded through RLT2 Developer Contributions for Play, which are held by Sedgemoor District Council.
