Work got underway on Tuesday (March 17th) to dismantle a disused storage building in Highbridge that has been struck by arsonists and vandals during recent years.
The property, situated next to the railway line at the rear of Somerfield supermarket, is being completely removed following negotiations between Sedgemoor District Council and Somerfield, which owns the land.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last July how two Burnham fire crews had been called to the scene to tackle a suspected arson blaze at the property, pictured below.
And last November a task force of councillors, police officers and council bosses visited the building during a ‘grot spots walkabout’ when they recommended the property be removed, as reported here.
Reg Winslow of Sedgemoor District Council told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We held discussions with the land owners and they have been very good in agreeing to get it demolished. Hopefully, this will resolve the problems here.”
