Exclusive: Owner of Highbridge Hotel wants to partially demolish it

-

Plans to renovate the fire-ravaged Highbridge Hotel have finally been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council this week – almost one year after a huge blaze swept through the building.

Mead Realisations, the owners, have submitted an application to carry out “fire clearance and partial demolition of outbuildings and the fire damaged building.”

It comes after the property, pictured above, was left in an unstable condition following a huge fire in April 2008. It has been boarded up ever since and nearby residents and councillors are keen to see its appearance improved.

Discussions have been taking place in recent weeks between Mead and Sedgemoor District Council because parts of the building are listed and therefore need to be conserved.

Highbridge councillor Joe Leach told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday (March 17th) he “cautiously welcomed” the application.

He added: “It’s unclear exactly what is being planned for the site, but I support moving forward with the renovation. I am keen to see work move forward as quickly as possible.”

Mr Mead told Burnham-On-Sea.com in September that he wants to restore the listed building to its former glory.
