A group of residents from Sedgemoor’s twin district in Germany of Schwalm-Eder-Kreis visited Burnham-On-Sea at the weekend to celebrate 30 years of twinning activities.
The visit has been arranged by the Schwalm-Eder-Kreis Twinning Society on behalf of Sedgemoor under the Presidency of Sedgemoor District Council, Chairman Dennis Davey.
The programme for the visit included visits to BARB (pictured) and the RNLI in Burnham along with local companies and events hosted by the town twinning societies from Burnham and Bridgwater.
The twinning society is run by volunteers, members of the three German town twinning organisations in Sedgemoor, together with district Councillors on behalf of Bridgwater, Burnham and Highbridge and Cheddar.
One of its main aims is to encourage the international exchange of school children between the two districts.
“Well in excess of two thousand young people have experienced an exchange under the auspices of the twinning association, most usually organised by the participating schools, although individual support is available, particularly through one of the three town twinning organisations, notably for work experience in Germany,” said Lorraine Folan, Sedgemoor’s Civic Officer.
