Over 40 athletes from across the South West took part in the second of three Burnham-On-Sea Aquathons on Sunday (March 29th).
The event, organised by the town’s Swim and Sports Academy, comprised a 750m swim and a 7km run and was won by 17 year-old Tom Derrick in a fast time of 35 minutes and 35 seconds.
Warm Spring sunshine provided ideal conditions for the running element of the competition. Burnham runner Martin Rogers was the second athlete home in a time of 35 minutes and 38 seconds. Other local finishers included Matt Freeman (40:30), Sarah Hudghton (42:34), David Paul (45:06), Victoria Boyer (47:48) and Innes Mackay (55:50).
Three Burnham Aquathons of varying distances are being held this year, instead of the normal single race. The third Aquathon will be held on April 19th and will be a 1,000m swim and a 10km run. Entry forms can be picked up from the Swim and Sports Academy in Berrow Road or by calling 01278 785909.
