Worried carnival organisers have this week begun distributing thousands of leaflets across Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge, warning that the event is ‘in crisis’ due to a lack of volunteers.
The attention-grabbing leaflets, pictured here, state that without more local support the carnival “will close down”.
Chairman Phil New told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Highbridge and Burnham Carnival Association are in desperate need of volunteers to help run the event this year.”
He added: “We really need more people to join us because the police and Highways are asking us to do even more of paperwork to be able to hold our Carnival, which we are finding hard to get done.”
“We will be distributing the leaflets across the area during the next two weeks and hope that many people come forward to help us. No experience is necessary and all we ask is that you have an enthusiasm for the carnival and a willingness to help out.”
The Carnival Committee is urging people to attend its annual general meeting on Wednesday April 11th at 7.30pm in the Ritz Social Club, Victoria Street, Burnham.
