A Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat was called to help a water skier in difficulty near Brean Down on Sunday morning (March 25th).
The crews were taking part in a training session near Berrow beach when they were diverted by Coastguards at 9.30am to assist the man in the Bristol Channel, north of Brean Down.
The lifeboat reached a small ski-boat with a crew of three and found the skier had been picked up by a nearby vessel.
As the man was very cold, and had begun to show symptoms of approaching hypothermia, he was taken to Knightstone Island in Weston where he was met by Weston Coastguards and a paramedic. The powerboat was helped back to the shore by the Weston lifeboat.
RNLI helmsman Glenn Cutter told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The casualty had been in the water for around 30 minutes and was extremely cold, although he had been given a hot drink by the assisting vessel. We quickly transported him to safety.”
