Over 150 runners took part in Burnham-On-Sea’s Sport Relief Mile today (Sunday, March 25th), raising hundreds of pounds for the BBC’s nationwide fundraising appeal.
Blue skies and sunshine swelled the numbers at the event, which was jointly organised by Burnham-On-Sea Harriers and Highbridge’s King Alfred Sports Centre.
Among those taking part were a group of Brent Knoll schoolchildren, who performed the conga around the course.
There were also many wacky costumes with runners dressed as dog, Superwoman and even Banana Man!
Brian Beale from Burnham Harriers told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am delighted that we had such strong support.
“The weather was superb and we hope to have raised a good sum for Sport Relief.”
Entrants were able to choose between one mile, three mile or six mile circuits, which included the South Esplanade, passing along the cycle track and taking in the sights of the River Brue.
King Alfred Sports Centre also provided a bouncy castle plus health checks and rowing machines and bike challenges.
There was an opportunity to try African drumming with ‘Fun 2 Drum’. It was the first Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile to be held in Burnham-On-Sea.
