Van submerged by incoming tide is rescued by tractor in Burnham-On-Sea

-

The owner of this van got a sinking feeling on Easter Sunday morning (April 12th) when he became stranded in soft sand besides Burnham-On-Sea jetty.

The wheels of fisherman Mark Draper’s van got stuck at 7.30am, and within a matter of minutes the vehicle had been swamped by the incoming tide, as pictured here.

A tractor from Burnham Boat Owners Association was called to the scene and a winch was used to pull the stricken vehicle free.

Simon Stroud, the club’s secretary, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The van’s wheels got stuck while Mark was trying to launch his boat for a day’s sea fishing.”

“This morning’s tide was a high Spring one, so it came in very quickly and the water level reached the top of the van’s windows before we managed to pull it free.”

“Mark is a long-standing member of the club and he was just unlucky. We were happy to help him. He still went off for his day’s fishing, so I hope it was worth it!”

A crowd of early morning walkers watched from the seafront as the drama took place on the jetty below.
