This prominent nursing home on Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront is under threat of closure due to a drop in the number of elderly people staying there.
The owners of Beverley Cottage residential care home, situated on the North Esplanade, confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that closing the home is being considered, although no final decision has yet been made.
Helen Joy, Chief Executive Officer of Brunelcare, explained in a statement to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The trustees and management team at Brunelcare are considering the possible closure of Beverley Cottage residential care home.”
“However, a decision has not yet been made on this issue. Consultation is currently in progress to discuss, invite and investigate, where appropriate, all suggestions including how closure can be avoided.”
She added: “There are two main reasons for considering the possibility of closure. The first is that Beverley Cottage is experiencing difficulties in securing permanent new residents.”
“This is due to several reasons that include the local competition in the Burnham-On-Sea area, and national and local initiatives to enable people to remain living in their own home for longer.”
“The second reason is that Beverley is experiencing difficulty in securing the required fee levels from residents (both respite and permanent), that cover the costs of running the home.”
